Description

This Pride Hike for any LGBTQ people who love to hike and learn about hiking is co-sponsored by Q-MoB and the Arcadian Shop, a queer-owned local outdoor recreation store & education center. CLASS & 10% PRIDE DISCOUNT: We'll start with a brief class on tools & techniques hikers can use to protect their knees & ankles (especially on ascents & descents) , maintain stability in slippery conditions, & maintain your outdoor mobility as you age. We'll cover stretches, strengthening, equipment, & techniques. HINT: If you don't own a pair of hiking poles, we're going to recommend you get some soon, especially if you already suffer from knee or ankle pain while hiking. After the hike we will offer carpooling to the trail head, which is nearby, to reduce the number of cars at the trailhead. THE HIKE: This is an easy hike that takes about 45 mins. Steven's Glen is a historic place where people would take their carriages in the 19th century to dance by the hundreds on a platform overlooking the ravine & waterfall at the top of the mountain. These days the ravine & waterfall and a platform (but not the original) are still there, but the forest has changed to old hemlocks and 100 foot tall white pines, rather than the American Chestnuts that were cut down to slow the epidemic that decimated the species. LUNCH AFTERWARDS: Please register separately HERE if you want to join us afterwards for lunch at the Lift Bistro.
