Come see what having a diabetes medical alert service dog is all about! We provide medical alert service dogs and buddy dogs to people living with type 1 diabetes who live within 3 hours distance of our training center in Concord, CA. We do also service Reno, NV. This event is open to peopel who meet that criteria. D4D staff and current D4D youth clients and their parents will be on hand to: Discuss what having a D4D service or buddy dog is all about and how it helps your child/teen take care of their diabetes. Explain the process for getting a D4D service or buddy dog. Address some of the unique concerns that parents and youth clients have about having a service dog. You will also learn how these dogs are trained and about canine obedience. There will also be dogs for you to handle and take for a walk and snuggle! We will also have current youth clients talk about what it is like having a diabetes medical alert dog. We hope you can join us! We guarantee it will be fun and informative! And, there will be dogs! FAQs DATE: April 22, 2023 Time: Sign-in 9:30 am - 10 am Formal Event: 10 am - 1 pm Does a Parent have to attend? Yes. Parents are key in assisting and supporting their child/teen to eventually get and partner with a diabetes service dog. Can other family members attend? Yes. Siblings and other family members who help with managing the diabetes are encouraged to join us. How do I register for this event? Via Eventbrite link. Pre-registration is required. What are Parents responsible for? *** Managing their child/teen’s diabetes during the session including but not limited to checking blood sugars, counting carbohydrates, dosing insulin, managing injections or pumps and sensors, and treating a low or high blood sugar. ***Provide ALL their child/teen’s diabetes supplies and lunch, snack, and drinks. What will D4D will provide? Bottled water. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Parking is free and plentiful. Check directions via Google map.
