Exciting news! Adoc's 10th Anniversary Tour is coming to Seattle! Join 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐃𝐨𝐜 and 𝐀𝐝𝐨𝐜 (Asociación de Documentalistas de Puerto Rico) for a screening event of documentaries exploring issues of colonialism, culture, music, and society in Puerto Rico. Join us for an unforgettable evening of powerful storytelling as we showcase a selection of short films from independent Puerto Rican filmmakers. Immerse yourself in the beauty and complexity of Puerto Rico's history and present-day realities. This is a unique screening opportunity in the PNW. Here is the updated movie lineup: Gallos de pelea: la última temporada / Cockfights: The Last SeasonTrReligion, culture, tradition and geography greatly affect the roles we assign to animals. On December 20th, 2018, President Donald Trump signed the 2019 Farm Bill into law. The Bill included an amendment that expanded the prohibition of animal fights, already illegal in each of the 50 states, to all U.S. territories. A year after the Bill was enacted, cockfights would be considered illegal in the territory of Puerto Rico after existing on the island for 400 years. The film explores how the animal rights movement and shifts in public policy challenge a cultural tradition. Watch the trailer here. Comida pa’ los pobres / Food for the PoorFollow Giovanni, a young Puerto Rican activist, as he confronts the island’s persistent crisis of food insecurity. Motivated by his childhood struggle with hunger, he seeks to inspire his fellow citizens to join a movement of solidarity-oriented work by feeding families and college students through mutual aid efforts – all while facing challenges from local authorities. La empresa / The CompanyThe ancient conflict of colonization is embodied today among residents of the Islote neighborhood, Arecibo, in the north coast of Puerto Rico, with the arrival of businessman José González Freyre and his project for a monumental statue in honor of Christopher Columbus. Mi compromiso con ella / My commitment to herTroubadour Roberto Silva explains to a group of farmers the old tradition in which peasant musicians used to sing "décimas" and "coplas" to their coworkers at harvest time and then invite troubadour Alberto Ortega accompanied by Juan R. Nieves and his Legado Musical to sing to them while they harvested at the farm of the agroecological project El Josco Bravo. Libre de miedo / Free From Fear Luis Felipe Passalacqua is the first and only blind sculpture student to graduate from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico, a journey that led him to enter professional and artistic life and to become aware of what it means to be blind in our society. Bomba ancestral / Ancestral BombaA short film about the first Bomba Ancestral returning to the ocean at sunset. Organized by Sheila Osorio and Samuel Lind in Loíza, Puerto Rico where the river meets the sea. We gathered on the beach. The moon was full and we could feel the connection to the four elements. The FIRE that purifies, WATER, AIR and EARTH. Honoring all of our ancestors from whom we inherited this beautiful dance of Bomba.
