Torn Lilacs is a harrowing true tale of survival wrapped around a love story. Winner of the 2022 Independent Press Award in the category of Judaism, required reading in a course on antisemitism at Sonoma State University and finalist of the Eric Hoffer Award.
Set during the dark days of WWII, Henry Michalski describes the heart-wrenching narrative of his parents' survival. In epic cinematic scenes, the reader is transported to the vast regions of Ukraine, Siberia, and Kazakhstan, where the author was born in 1945. Learn about these little known areas as well as the intense antisemitism that permeates the Eurasian landscape.
Torn Lilacs is also a love story, enabled by fate, struggle, hope, strength, faith and divine intervention which soars above the accounts of the depravity and cruelty.
Join us to hear Michalski's stories live and in person to hear him bring these stories to life.
