Singing Girls of Texas presents, "Gemstones of Women" a concert highlighting female composers, poets, and artists. One of the most prolific composers in Western Classical Music is the visionary and German abbess, Hildegard von Bingen. Considered to many scholars as the first recorded female composer, Hildegard was many things outside of being a musician and singer. She was also a writer, philosopher, mystic, and medical writer and practitioner. Her books and writings are rooted in spirituality, connection to the earth, and connection to the soul. One of her many medical textbooks attributes healing and empowering qualities to gemstones. Her belief is that things of the earth hold special power since they were created by God himself/herself. Join SGT as we journey through Medieval, Baroque, 19th-century, and 20th-century works of departed female composers represented by Sapphire, the gemstone of wisdom. Fly on the wings of birds and butterflies through pieces represented by Malachite, the gemstone of nature. Open your ears to the poets of old and new represented by Sardonyx, the gemstone of words, and through the music of Dolly Parton and Rosephanye Powell, represented by Citrine, the gemstone of joy!
