RTI's Transformative Research Unit for Equity (TRUE) invites you to join for the premiere documentary screening of the City of Durham Community Safety Department's (DCSD) Holistic Empathetic Assistance Response Team — better known as HEART. In the Fall of 2022, TRUE's Narrative Research and Community Engagement Lab brought their cameras into the Durham Community Safety office to document all of the work—and heart—that goes into developing a brand new compassionate crisis response team. As the city's newest public safety department, alongside Police, Fire, EMS, and Emergency Communications, it is the first to be filled with mental health clinicians, peer support specialists, and EMTs working together to support our neighbors in crisis. See the team learn, collaborate, and grow in the early days of building the HEART program, then stay for a panel discussion with Community Safety staff.
