Description

The theme for this meeting is Diversify. Diversify. Diversify. Explore the beautiful farm, meet adorable baby lambs (photo op!), and learn about this thriving North Alabama business. We’ll learn how Natasha took a 3-acre farm and turned it into a national brand specializing in sustainable farming and handmade products. As a special bonus, John Kvach, will be there to discuss the beginnings of The Singing River Trail, a 200+ mile greenway system that will transform North Alabama. With bike and walking trails going through small Alabama towns, it will create new health, transportation, and tourism opportunities for our region. Did we mention the door prize? Two lucky winners will win a gift basket from 1818 Farms! For everyone else, the gift shop will be open during our visit. Wear boots unless you don’t mind getting dirty and bring a blanket for a good ole’ fashioned picnic. Plan to share with someone you don’t know. It’s the perfect networking opportunity! Enjoy boxed charcuterie and water from our friends at Church Street Family. This is one meeting you won’t want to miss! Traffic will be heavy leaving Huntsville, so plan to leave early if you can! *In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled to Thursday, April 27, 2023. The founder and owner of 1818 Farms, Natasha McCrary, grew up in Florence and attended the University of Alabama. In 2011, Natasha became interested in starting a family-run farm to teach her children about sustainability and the importance of the land. Natasha had no experience raising farm animals like Southdown Babydoll sheep, let alone running a farm. But she had an idea of how she could make it work: combine the farm with a small business that would help cover the cost of food for the animals. The result is a flourishing flower farm and a line of simple ingredient beauty and lifestyle products focused on sustainability. In 2019, Natasha was recognized nationally for winning Amazon’s Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year Award. As a result of this great success, Natasha is sharing her story nationwide to encourage other small-business owners that growing a business is possible with the right tools in place. Dr. John F. Kvach, serves as the Executive Director of the Singing River Trail, a 200+ mile greenway trail system that will span North Alabama. Previously, Dr. Kvach spent 10 years as an Associate Professor of Southern History at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and served as Vice President of Liberty Learning Foundation. He has written two books and many articles on local and state history, southern history, historic preservation, and the culture of the American South. Dr. Kvach now works with nine counties, 25+ towns and cities, and many private/public stakeholders who see regional collaboration and the Singing River Trail as part of the collective future for the people and communities of North Alabama.
