Get to know the real Jackie O. at an exclusive, private “First Look” Champagne Reception with Monte Durham from Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta on Monday evening, May 1, as the National First Ladies Library/First Ladies National Historic Site debuts its newest exhibit: Beyond Camelot: The Life and Legacy of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The exhibition opens to the public on Tuesday, May 2, but you can get an exclusive sneak preview on the evening of May 1 at a special Champagne Reception with Monte Durham, a prolific Jacqueline Kennedy collector, who will appear in person for the opening and will give a special talk for our exclusive guests. Mr. Durham has donated never-before-seen artifacts including intimate letters, awe-inspiring reproduction dresses, and vintage ephemera for this extraordinary exhibit, which explores the layers of Jackie’s life, from her role as a mother to her position as First Lady. You’ll experience Jackie through her number-one fan, Monte Durham, as he shares the intimate stories revealed by his collectibles (Did you know that Jackie always wore white gloves to cover her cigarette-stained fingers?). The centerpiece of the exhibiton highlights African-American dress designer Ann Lowe, who created Jackie’s wedding gown – one of the most recognizable wedding dresses of all time. The exhibition features an exquisite reproduction of the gown created by a couture wedding dress designer (the original dress is too delicate to display and is currently preserved at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum). Attendees for this special evening will receive exclusive first-look access to the exhibit before the public opening, the opportunity to hear Monte Durham speak about the collection in the intimate setting of our theater, Champagne and appetizers, free parking, and a special gift.
