Description

When people are faced with disaster, intense emotions are often present and appropriate. Psychological First Aid (PFA) can help response volunteers promote an environment of safety, calm, connectedness, self-efficacy, empowerment, and hope. When COVID emerged, MRC waived this volunteer training requirement in order to expedite applications and get you ready for service faster. We are now excited to bring this training back in an in person setting. There isn't a single volunteer service opportunity where you may not have an opportunity to practice Psychological First Aid. It is a skill that will be needed during a disaster response such as at a shelter or family reunification center - and useful for our family and day-to-day relationships. PFA will help you with: • Understanding the different types of stress • Understanding how trauma affect us • Understanding PTSD • Fostering short and long term adaptive functioning • Coping skills • Reducing initial distress caused by trauma • Assisting others who are affected by trauma • How to be proactive when dealing with stressful situations PFA 101 and PFA 102 will be offered in succession on the training day - with a break for lunch. Lunch will be provided. REGISTRATION begins at 9:30 so we can start exactly at 10. We are pleased to cover the cost of this training for MRC volunteers and those who may consider joining. Because of our investment and planning, we will consider your registration your firm commitment to attend. Thank you so much - it's going to be a great training day. About our Trainer: Lisa C Kaufman, ATR-BC, LADC1 Preparedness Specialty Services Behavioral Health, Emergency Planning Consultant
