Have you been eyeing those intarsia and fair isle patterns but not sure where to start? Hudson-based fiber artist, Lizz Hill Wiker will walk your through a variety of techniques using multiple stands and colors of yarn.
During the class, students will produce a series of color work swatches using intarsia and common fair isle techniques. Lizz will also help you get familiar with reading charts (flat and in-the-round), get you started with holding yarns in both hands and will provide tips for managing and anchoring floats.
EXPERIENCE LEVEL
This is an adventurous-beginner's class; students must know how to cast-on, knit and purl (flat) and bind off. It is recommended that students have some experience reading patterns and can knit both flat and in the round (though not required).
MATERIALS AND TOOLS NEEDED
Students may bring their own yarn and needles or purchase at Fabulous Yarn before the workshop begins. If you plan to purchase yarn, please arrive 30 minutes before the class starts so Lizz can help you select appropriate yarn and needles.
Students will need yarn in DK, Worsted or Aran weight and should have at least 50 yards each 2 different colors of the same yarn weight. The colors should have high contrast. For example, a dark and light color. Avoid colors that are very similar in shade. Students will also need knitting needles in the appropriate corresponding size based on the yarn weight you choose, and Lizz recommended that you bring circular needles with at least 24” cable length.
