Business Breakfast Roundtable | The Business Case for Dependent Care

Description
When you think of dependent care benefits, you likely think of childcare. But did you know that according to Gallup-Healthways, “more than 1 in 6 working Americans report assisting with the care of an elderly or disabled family member, relative, or friend in addition to their employment. Of this group, nearly half report feeling they have no choice about taking on these responsibilities. That is why many struggle in silence, choosing not to share their situation with employers out of fear of the impact on their career or a desire for privacy.” While FMLA offers some job protection for “seriously ill family members”, that protection is unpaid and is restricted to spouse, child, or parent. Caregiving in all forms contributes to lower work productivity and increases the chances of turnover in an already tough labor market. Sponsored by Jacque Jennings-Carter - ADVANCING LIVES, LLC, the Southwest Michigan First Chamber will be hosting the next in our 2023 Business Breakfast Roundtable series where we’ll share insights and actions employers can take to address these and other related challenges. In partnership with the Kalamazoo Human Resource Management Association (KHRMA), you are invited to join us on Tuesday, April 25 for the next Business Breakfast Roundtable at The Catalyst Center in downtown Kalamazoo.
