Sponsor: Eastman Community Music School (ECMS). Free admission courtesy of ECMS. Ticket holding guests must have some relationship to ECMS, EMS, or University of Rochester. Rare opportunity. Guests will be escorted by UR students to the carillon playing cabin where they may view the carillon being played, ask questions about the instrument, even ring a bell. Environment includes passing through a public student study gathering area, library stacks, elevator ride 12 flights up, several flights of steps to the cabin cubicle at the top of the dome, open air space in view. Guests should be able to climb steps safely and have no fear of heights. Minimum age 10-17 must be accompanied by one parent. Hopeman Carillon concert performance at 5pm, location Eastman Quadrangle, all public welcome. Date/ Time options: Sunday April 16, 2023 Tours 3:30pm, 4:00pm, Concert at 5pm, Tours 6:00pm, 6:30pm. Free Tickets, entrance by reservation only: Groups limited to 5 per entry. Minimum participant age 10-17 accompanied by one parent. Requirement: No fear of heights plus ability to climb and descend stairs safely. Parking: 755 Library Rd. Rochester, NY. Library Lot or Intercampus Drive Lot. Meetup Location inside the doorway by the Tech Store, 755 Library Rd entrance ground floor of Rush Rhees Library. May I take pictures? We request camera use be limited to your group and only with permission. Please ask for permission before taking pictures of students. What can I expect? Students will meet you by the Tech Store and usher your group offering information about the carillon as they move you through the various spaces of the library to reach the dome tower. Enjoy an elevator ride, a short talk at the landing, a stair climb to the carillon cabin where the instrument console resides. The carillon player will demonstrate how the carillon is played. Bells above roof not in view. Those who wish may play a bell. At the timer ring we'll move the group back down to ground. Ask host students your questions while you move. The outdoor concert at 5pm is accessible to wheelchairs but the tour is not. All public may enjoy the free concert at 5-6pm. Bring seating and dress for the weather of the day. Restrooms are nearby the Tech Store at the 755 Library Rd entrance. Is my registration/ticket transferrable? No. Your ticket is your personal commitment to attend. Can I update my registration information? Yes, please cancel as necessary to allow another to have a ticket. 50th Anniversary Year of Hopeman Carillon will include: ECMS April tour, July Wed 6:30pm weekly concerts, and Meliora October concerts.
