Tens of thousands of Irish miners fleeing famine risked it all for a better life in the mining boom of 1880’s Leadville. Their labor was cheap, their lives short, and their bodies often buried in the pauper section of Evergreen Cemetery. Can digging up the past and celebrating the forgotten dead shed light on the immigrant stories of Colorado? Come together in community with Rocky Mountain PBS on April 26th at the Old Church in Leadville to celebrate the history of the Irish Miners and prescreen this new episode of Colorado Experience. The reception will begin at 6pm, followed by a screening at 7pm, and panel discussion with local experts beginning at 7:30pm. The event is free to attend but registration is required.
