Description

The Coalition will hold 4 discussions at each of our sites throughout 2023.  The discussions are FREE thanks to our sponsors Guy and Elizabeth Montgomery. Join us at the second of our 4 part series of book discussions at Oxmoor Farm!  We will discuss Jodi Skipper's Behind the Big House: Reconciling Slavery, Race, and Heritage in the U.S. South.   This book gives readers a candid, behind-the-scenes look at what it really takes to interpret the difficult history of slavery in the U.S. South. The book explores Jodi Skipper’s eight-year collaboration with the Behind the Big House program, a community-based model used at local historic sites to address slavery in the collective narrative of U.S. history and culture. The discussion will take place on May 25 at 6:00 pm in the library at Oxmoor Farm and will be lead by Victoria Trice. Ms. Trice is a graduate of Fisk University with a master’s in education from Bellarmine University. She is currently teaching African History and Developing Historical Black Consciousness at Central High School. Books may be purchased through amazon books. Refreshments will be provided. The discussion is FREE but please signup to reserve your spot!
