SIA/Subaru of Indiana Tour, Q&AMonday, April 17 - 9:00 AM Tour and a second 11:00 AM TourJoin us for a catwalk tour of SIA/Subaru. There are two separate tours and Q&A sessions with SIA personnel. Each combination of tour and Q&A will last about two hours. The first tour starts at 9 AM and the 2nd tour starts at 11 AM. This event is for WVLN members only. We may need to limit the number of participants from each member organization, but right now there is no limit. The maximum number per tour is 25 people. In May 1986, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (now Subaru Corp.) and Isuzu agreed to enter into a joint venture to establish a manufacturing plant in the U.S. Of the many cities originally explored, 13 sites were eventually chosen for further consideration in seven states, including the state of Indiana. In December 1986, Lafayette was selected as the site for the plant and, in March 1987, Subaru-Isuzu Automotive (SIA) was incorporated in Indiana. In May 1987, ground was broken for the SIA plant and construction began. The original 2.3-million square foot facility integrated operations from stamping to final assembly. Production of the Subaru Legacy and Isuzu pickup began on September 11, 1989. The plant was officially dedicated on October 16, 1989 with a weeklong grand opening ceremony. Throughout the years, SIA Associates have built the Subaru Legacy, Outback, Impreza, Baja and Tribeca, as well as the Isuzu Pick-up, Rodeo, Amigo and Axiom and the Honda Passport. In January 2003, SIA became Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. signifying the sole ownership by Subaru Corp. (then Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.). SIA discontinued production of Isuzu vehicles on July 23, 2004, and began to build the Toyota Camry on February 28, 2007 under contract with Toyota. Production of the Camry ended in May 2016 to make way for additional Subaru production. Subaru Impreza production began in late 2016 and the Subaru Ascent joined the production mix in May 2018. WVLN is a state-wide, member-driven group, focused on applying Lean principles and continuous improvement methods to eliminate waste in business processes so member organizations can gain a competitive edge. WVLN helps train, connect, and encourage members on their lean journeys through the exchange of knowledge and experience. As fabulous as the presentations are in providing new ideas and training that we can actively use in our organization and personal lives, the profound power of the group is the opportunity to meet, engage, and network with highly motivated individuals and leaders driving improvement in their organizations. There will be time for networking, discussion, and sharing before and after the meetings. Most meetings are both in-person and live-streamed. Whether you’re new to process improvement and lean or an experienced practitioner, join us for our next event. Connect with peers and share experiences of implementing Lean processes in a wide variety of fields, from manufacturing to healthcare to finance. Non-members of WVLN can attend one of our meetings as a guest (at no cost), so feel free to invite a friend/peer who might have an interest in attending. Questions? Ready to join the group......
