Description

Following the conclusion of the Danish American Heritage Society's "Ecologies and Ethnicity Conference on June 24, 2023, the Museum of Danish America will host a 40th Anniversary Dinner from 5 - 7 pm at the museum in Elk Horn, Iowa. Following the private dinner, everyone is welcome to attend the museum's annual Sankt Hans Aften celebration at 7 pm. Sankt Hans Aften is free and open to the public. Sankt Hans Aften, Danish-style midsummer, is the perfect excuse to gather around a fire, roast s'mores, and surround yourself with family, friends, and community. At 7 pm, a production of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling" will be performed by Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton students. Galleries will be open for viewing, and the design store will be open for browsing and shopping. Live music will be provided by Dwight Lamb and Friends. Guests are encouraged to bring their own instruments, join in group sing-a-longs, or just enjoy the music. Rain or shine, the museum will celebrate Sankt Hans Aften. Should the weather cooperate, a bonfire will be lit at sunset.  Snobrød and marshmallows for s'mores will be available to roast in the Hansen Council Ring. There will also be kubb, croquet, and lawn games.  Guests are welcome to bring their own seating, beverages, lawn games, etc.  This event is sponsored in part by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and Gordon Faber. If you or your business are interested in sponsoring other 40th anniversary events, contact the museum by calling 712.764.7001 or by emailing [email protected] Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend events hosted by the Museum of Danish America.
