Dale M. Pollock, former Dean of the School of Filmmaking at UNCSA, has published a historical true crime novel set in 1850 Boston. The novel begins with the disappearance of the richest man in Boston. Despite circumstantial evidence a Harvard professor is charged with the murder. As a young doctor uses his deductive reasoning to solve the mystery, he uncovers a tragic truth involving the Underground Railroad and becomes embroiled in a forbidden romance. Dale M. Pollock has been a film critic for Daily Variety, the chief entertainment correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, and wrote Skywalking: The Life and Films of George Lucas. While working with David Geffen’s company as a development executive he discovered the scripts for Beetlejuice, The Burbs and Universal Soldier. Dale has also produced the films The Beast, The Mighty Quinn, A Midnight Clear and Mrs. Winterbourne. In 1999 he became Deal of the School of Filmmaking at UNCSA, stepping down to become Professor of Cinema Studies and was awarded Emeritus in 2019. He is currently working on a book about how Hollywood has treated aging in the movies.
