We are currently witnessing a rise in the fashion industry among Indigenous communities! We are finally being given the platform to truly represent who we are as Native people and we should come prepared. We should hold ourselves accountable for correct representation among the media and the mainstream industries so that we are correctly recognized for our art and beauty. Modeling is no exception, as it is one of the most sought after careers in the fashion industry. We look to have a discussion about how important our representation is, how to have the correct modeling etiquette and how to network amongst other departments of the industry. This goes off of the saying ‘its all about who you know’, but that would only become true if you began to network for yourself. That’s what we will cover. Of course, walking is highly important so we will have a run-through. We will also have a display on what to bring to model calls & model auditions. If you were looking in to how to get into the industry, here is your chance! We would love to meet you! Also, as a bonus, models will be scouted during the workshop to have a chance to walk in New York Fashion Week in September 2023! Our head designer Alyssa Henson-Brackett is the owner and designer of Alynwonderland. She has been invited to participate in New York Fashion Week and is looking to scout around 6 more models to take, as well as 3 alternatives. There will be a few other designers amongst the crowd that will be training on how to scout for modeling, as well as truly scout for someone who they would network with and possibly invite you to be apart of their brand! Our model instructors include other Indigenous models who have graced runways and had training in the industry as well. Models will walk away with a deeper understanding of what is expected of them, how to be taken serious and how to elevate your own brand for yourself. Models must be 16 or older to attend, along with a parent or legal guardian. After your ticket is purchased, you will receive an email regarding what to bring and wear, along with a link to a registration form. This form must be filled out by 4/22/23 @ 11:59PM.
