Description

This workshop is for aspiring Indigenous designers who already have a brand and want to figure out the next step or those who already sew and want to create a brand in general. This helps us find our voice and give our true representation in the media and the fashion industry in general. This is not a sewing class (which will be announced for the summertime). The designer workshop is for those who already have projects and ideas and just want to know how to get involved with the native fashion industry, how to network and how to elevate yourself so that you may present your brand with pride everywhere you go! This workshop also gives you tools to connect with others throughout the industry and the basics of being apart of runway shows, photoshoots and how to search for help from all areas. Alyssa Henson-Brackett is the owner and designer of Alynwonderland and has professionally been designing for 7 years, mainly in the mainstream industry. Alyssa wants to take everything that she's learned outside of the communities and give that back to our commmunities. Even without being given the luxury of attending fashion or art schools, Alyssa was able to start an internship at NWA Fashion Week (otherwise known as Interform Fashion Association) and build her networks from there. Alyssa has an extensive background in runway fashion organization and marketing, while currently being the Designer in Residence for Interform Fashion Association. Our other speaker is Jamie Bennett, the owner and designer of Mvskoke Threads. Jamie is a well-respected designer and has benefitted from showcasing in many shows around Indian Country. Jamie has experience in working with many other creators and collaborators in the industry, as well as teaching cultural classes for 5 years. She has had her hand in craft sales, festivals and community dances as well. Participants will walk away with an extended understanding on how to take your brand to the next level! Designers will also have the option to stick around and watch as we conduct the model workshop in the same location, only an hour after concluding the designer workshop. This gives you a chance to possibly scout models for your next project and make connections with other Indigenous talent from the area! Please expect an email from [email protected] that includes your registration form. This needs to be filled out and returned by 4/22/23 @ 11:59PM.
