About NID Housing Counseling Agency Learning from the Past; Enhancing the Present to Shape the Future NID Housing grew out of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) and in particular the leadership of Mr. Ray Carlisle Sr., a prominent member of the Democratic Party, and Mr. Thom Holmes, a prominent member of the Republican Party. NAREB, founded in 1947 to foster full, fair, and equitable inclusion of African Americans in all aspects of the real estate industry, was a major advocate organization for the Brown v. Board USSC Decision of 1954, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968. These collective major legislative achievements and politically based policy developments helped inform and shape the advocacy motivations and philosophy of NID. NID provides home buyer education workshops that are nationally accepted and certified through HUD. These workshops are designed to provide the following: NID HCA Intake, Review of Renting vs. Owning, Basic Tenant Rights and Affordable Housing Options, Housing Counseling Orientation, Understanding Credit, Managing Your Money, Obtaining a Mortgage Loan, Available Down Payment Assistance Information, Fair Housing, Ready to Buy a Home, and Protecting your Investments (Post Purchase and Foreclosure Prevention).
