Description

Welcome to the world of natural dyeing! In this introductory workshop, we’ll see just how vibrant botanicals can be while we learn to dye, mordant, and fix with roots, flowers, minerals, and fruits. Find out which plants in your garden or scraps from your kitchen will produce beautiful colors! Why dye with botanicals? Natural dyeing is accessible, simple, rewarding, and can breathe new life into old clothes and linens or bring diy projects to the next level. We will also go over some customizable folding and banding techniques. Everyone will go home with a silk scarf dyed to their preference; we will have several botanical dye baths to choose from, as well as swatches to experiment with! Participants are welcome to bring an additional small article of clothing, fabric, or yarn if it is made from a natural fiber (silk, wool, cotton, linen) to add to the dye pots. Teacher Bio: Micaela Foley (she/they) is a clinical herbalist, writer, educator, and auricular acupuncture trainer.
