Presentation Title: Making Places POP! A Catalyst for NeighborhoodsThere are many elements that comprise healthy and vibrant neighborhoods, districts and cities. Critical to the culture and identity to communities are small businesses that define the urban fabric of our cities and towns. As designers and curators of the built environment we must seek solutions to improve quality of life in these environments that support community development and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Creation of innovative tools that accomplish these goals is central to the safe re-opening process and sustainable futures of our communities. By utilizing existing urban infrastructure, communities are able to create culturally responsive solutions that are best-fit to their unique identities and values. The topic of Post-Pandemic streets and placemaking activations culminates in Pop! Courts - an urban intervention that creates pride of place – to intentionally connect improvement of quality of life amenity with capacity building in underrepresented communities.
