Description
We hope you are able to join us for the following in-person event this April! You are invited to an intimate presentation given by LaRee Johnson of Victoriana Nostalgic Fashions at The Victorian Belle Mansion. Our newest PAG member and very special guest presenter, LaRee joins us for a welcome opportunity to connect with each other and learn more about our material history. Her program "Amazing Lace" shares with us the charm and rich history of lace: "as beauty's aid, it is hardly necessary to dwell. All acknowledge the graceful and softening effect of filmy ruffles and the delicate webs of threading. Stitch by stitch, and thread by thread, lace is that beautiful embellishment added for nothing more than to beautify; showing a lady's needlework skill." Along with a very interesting discussion of lace history LaRee will share some exquisite examples from her vast personal collection; identifying handmade lace, as contrasted with machine-made lace. LaRee Johnson has been an avid collector and presenter of vintage fashions, with programs featuring everything from aprons to wedding gowns. She has authored and photographed Ladies’ Vintage Accessories, a 333-page comprehensive identification guide on ladies' vintage fashion accessories from the mid-1800s to modern day. LaRee's book will be for purchase at this event! We look forward to seeing you soon! NOTE: Active Friends of PAG supporters will receive an email with your exclusive 25% off ticketing code. Thank you for your continued support! About our venue: Built by David Cole in 1885 as a wedding gift for Amanda Laura Boone, great-granddaughter of frontiersman Daniel Boone, the Victorian Belle now holds historical artifacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries: antique furniture, old clothing (including Amanda Laura Boone’s wedding dress and slippers!), old photographs, lithographs, magazine covers, and much more. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the mansion also has its original wood fixtures and houses the largest displays of Povey Brothers stained glass in the world.
