Description

The Olympic/Paralympic Day is brought to you by the French Consulate, Paris Saint-Germain Academy LA and partners, to celebrate the designation of Paris as the host city for the 2024 Games and to promote general awareness about the values and benefits of sports. Our Goals: - To raise awareness of the values of Olympism by using educational and recreational tools. - To introduce students to the Olympic and Paralympic disciplines. - To change the way young people perceive disabilities and to discover para-sports. - To encourage exercise and promote its benefits for health and social skills development. We will also be providing information to parents and students regarding the complementary aspect of esports: the video game industry now has 3.1 billion players worldwide and even universities are now recruiting players to compete for them. We believe it is important to share how esports can be beneficial by providing educational and occupational opportunities, and even help with personal development by giving players confidence and other soft skills like leadership, communication, teamwork, problem solving and time-management, especially when they are played in a healthy manner. All day long, participants can enjoy sport/esports in workshops where they can either observe or participate in these activities, including things like basketball (and wheelchair basketball), soccer (and blind soccer), volleyball, dance, eGaming and more! We will also have a panel of exclusive guest speakers, including Emilie Gomis (London 2012 Olympic Basketball player), Joe McAllister (an Education Esports Expert), Chevon Hicks (Professor of Interface Design for Games at USC School of Cinematic Arts), Kia Joon (an Esport Consultant and Head Coach at Pepperdine University), Robert Persichetti (Dreamworks; co-director of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’) and Pierre Perifel (Dreamworks; Director of ‘Bad Guys’), Cinzia Angelini (Head of Story at Cinesite Studios; director of ‘Mila’), Freedom (movement artist/choreographer who pioneered the cinematic-dance genre ‘Epiic’), and more! A live band and other live performances will also be part of the program! Practical information: - Admission : Registration is free and no physical tickets are necessary. - Fill in this form so that we can get to know you better! - Parking: Participants are encouraged to use rideshare services and/or to carpool, as no guest parking will be available on the Burbank campus. Guests who choose to drive may find street parking on Riverside Drive or park in Pickwick's lot (just east of campus).
