THE WINE Joseph Phelps Vineyards is a family-owned and operated wine estate with vineyards and wineries in Napa Valley and on the western Sonoma Coast. The winery was founded in 1973 by Joe Phelps when he purchased a former cattle ranch in St. Helena, Napa Valley. Before becoming a vintner, Joe built a successful career as a construction engineer, building the company his father had founded, Hensel Phelps Construction Company, into one of the largest and most successful construction companies in the U.S. in little more than a decade. Joe continued to lead Hensel Phelps Construction Company until he sold the firm to its employees in 1986 and always credited his years there for a good deal of the success he found in the wine business. Today, the Phelps family is committed to maintaining and nurturing Joseph Phelps Vineyards as a family-run winery and to extending the extraordinary legacy of its founder, Joe Phelps. THE CAUSE The UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge is a community of cyclists, runners, walkers and volunteers who share a commitment to defeating cancer. Its mission is to raise awareness and funds for life-saving research at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. One hundred percent of the dollars raised by participants go to promising cancer research. For more information, visit www.Anti-CancerChallenge.org. The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is at the forefront of discovering new ways to fight cancer. As the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in Orange County, the cancer center combines leading-edge research, clinical trials and world-class care for patients.
