Are you a music lover, artist, or aspiring music business professional? WYXR's Meeting In The Middle is an annual seminar and networking event that brings fans, musicians, and industry insiders to the table to unpack the topics that matter most to Memphis' musical future. Even in the vast digital landscape of the music industry, regional music scenes continue to play a vital role in how we consume music. And Memphis' music community remains a dynamic and influential outpost for numerous genres and styles. History holds countless examples of Memphis-bred musicians who found their fortunes by taking their talents to more prominent music cities. Yet, in recent years, a growing trend shows a pattern of visiting artists who have decided to make Memphis their home. This year, we've devised two panels to discuss both phenomena from the perspectives of artists who've experienced both sides. This year, we ask: Why do artists from all over the world come here to tap into our rich musical heritage and build on its promise? And why have some talented Memphians sought opportunities elsewhere?
