Description

Enjoy performances by the University Chorale, Chamber Singers, and University Singers. Under the direction of Dr. Leann Conley-Holcom, Director of Choral & Vocal Activities. March 10 The Seattle University Choirs (Dr. Leann Conley-Holcom, Director) will present DREAMING OURSELVES AWAKE: A LENTEN PRAYER, on Friday March 10 at 8pm at Seattle First Baptist Church. This concert follows a long tradition of Winter Quarter musical offerings that include reflections upon the Christian liturgical season of Lent. The choirs are joined by the twelve-voice University of Washington Graduate Choral Cohort, violinist Naomi Southard, cellist Sarah Rommel, and Composer-in-Residence Melissa Dunphy, whose works will be performed including the deeply relevant multi-movement cantata American DREAMers. This piece brings to light the stories of immigrants in the wake of anti-immigrant rhetoric; texts from five young Americans who were brought to America as children were chosen and woven into a work that honors their story and inspires hope, empathy, and action. Also on the program is music by Susan LaBarr, Bob Dylan, Kevin Allen, and more. May 19 Our final concert of the year includes a commission and performance with Karen Marolli. Watch the recording of our December 2 holiday concert on YouTube. (The performance begins at 31:00.) The Seattle University Choirs (Dr. Leann Conley-Holcom, Director / Dr. Lee Peterson, Pianist) present My Heart Shall Sing: A Holiday Celebration in Word and Song. The concert includes the premiere of an entirely new composition titled "Twin Stars," collaboratively created by the choirs this quarter with Dr. Giselle Wyers (University of Washington). Including repertoire by Victor C. Johnson, Karen Marrolli, Marques L. Garrett, Vera Kistler and audience favorites including John Rutter's "Candlelight Carol" and an audience singalong. With special instrumental guests on flute, violin and percussion.
