Description

GRAAMA is honored to collaborate with Calvin University’s 2023 Calvin Center for Faith & Writing Conference (CCFW) in hosting essayist and editor-at-large, Garnette Cadogan. Selected from a list of 29 writers from around the world who “represent the future of new writing,” Garnette explores the promise and perils of urban life, the vitality and inequality of cities, and the challenges of pluralism. In addition, he writes about the culture and the arts for various publications and is editor of Nonstop Metropolis: A New York City Atlas while currently touring to support his first major publication, THE ART OF WALKING: WRITING PRACTICE IN MOTION. One of his powerful essays, “Walking While Black,” first published in 2015 within the literary magazine, FREEMAN’S, under the title of “Black and Blue” can be accessed through the link below. Aiming to be a strong literary partner—both in the community and beyond — the CCFW brings the literary giant, Garnette Cadogan, to West Michigan in late March for his symposium: MEMORY AND MEMORIALS. On Saturday, April 1, he will give a talk to be hosted at the Grand Rapids African American Museum & Archives. The event is free, but due to limited seating registration is recommended.
