Cultures from around the world are beautiful and different from ours. When traveling, it's easy to point your lens at an unsuspecting subject, snap a picture, and post it to social media with some pithy observations. But as photographers, we have a responsibility to our subjects, including sharing their stories. Every once and a while, that voice in the back of our head says "Should I have asked before taking their picture?" or “Should I post this image?” I think we should listen to and work with that voice.
In this talk, I’ll share some of my thoughts, strategies, and experiences with taking and sharing photos of people across the world. This, to me, is Ethical Photography; how not to exploit the subject we’re taking pictures of, but rather, to honor them by sharing their stories, histories, and cultures.
