2023 Progressive Preservation Talks with Louis Joyner and Daniel OstroffSaturday, 22 April1:00 pm – 3:00 pm Talks at the Library3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Tour of First Christian Church with Special Organ ConcertJoin us for this special conversation about how Progressive Preservation efforts can help build communities.This Progressive Preservation Talk with Louis Joyner AIA and Daniel Ostroff will feature information about the iconic First Christian Church. The event will take place in the Red Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library. In a public discussion, Joyner, a Columbus-based Architect will share his work and involvement with the First Christian Church Save Our Tower project. Ostroff, Head of Acquisitions and Research at The Eames Institute and Consultant to The Eames Office, will talk about the connections and history of Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen-designed furniture at First Christian Church.The afternoon will begin with a reception at 1:00 pm. The talk will take place with a few special guests after the reception.Following the talk, at 3:30 pm, we will head across the street for a special tour of First Christian Church and a discussion about the Save our Tower project. Joyner and Ostroff will join us on the tour of FCC, also. Closing out the day will be a special concert with Lisa Lohmeyer playing on the historic Aeolian-Skinner organ.Funding is provided by Indiana Humanities (through the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities, a federal agency) and Indiana Landmarks.Louis Joyner holds a Master of Architecture from Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and a Bachelor of Arts from New College of Florida. He is a member of the AIA, a registered interior designer, and has been determined to meet the "Professional Qualification Standards" by the Indiana State Historic Preservation Officer. In addition to practice, Louis has taught in the J.Irwin Miller Architecture Program of Indiana University, in the IU Interiors program, and been a guest critic at several schools of architecture. His community work includes service as Chair of Indiana Modern, facility advisor to North Christian Church, Columbus Visitor’s Center Advisory Board, board member of the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives, and others. Daniel Ostroff is a film producer and expert on the work of Charles and Ray Eames. He has worked with The Eames Office since 2006 and is the author of An Eames Anthology (2015, Yale University Press). He is also the Head of Acquisitions and Research for The Eames Institute. As a movie producer, he is currently developing projects for Image Nation, MGM, and Village Roadshow. Over his career, he has produced eight movies including the award-winning documentary DOGTOWN AND Z BOYS and Ron Howard's THE MISSING. Photos of First Christian Church by Hadley Fruits
