This two-day in-person workshop will be held at the office of the Charleston County Consolidated 911 Center at 8500 Palmetto Commerce Parkway, North Charleston, SC 29456 Speakers will include: Karima Holmes, Distinguished Leader in 911 Andrea King-Smith, Strategic CSM and Customer Engagement Lead at Carbyne Leah Missildine, Executive Director, Alabama 911 Board Admiral (Ret) David Simpson, National Leader in 911 Advocacy Dawn Shumway, Instructor with the Denise Amber Lee Foundation/Comms Director Sara Weston, Founder/Executive Director, 911der Women, Inc. 911 is a profession. 911 is a career. 911 is a journey. We hear too often, "oh, I'm just a dispatcher," but what does that mean? In today's 911 environment, there is much skill required to perform this incredibly important job. But it's also important that the folks answering the calls are feeling fulfilled, inspired, passionate, and constantly learning. Many times, 911 professionals feel stuck where they are in the career with no path forward. This workshop is the remedy! We believe that 911 is a profession with avenues to improve, promote, and move within the public safety industry. There are more opportunities than ever before and you have to be ready for when that opportunity may strike! This workshop will give you the tools, skills, inspiration, motivation, and pathways to career development within 911. Objectives for the workshop: 1. To motivate attendees to think about what they want from their careers in 911. 2. To explore the process for career growth and how to prepare. 3. To demonstrate how to step into opportunities as we figure out where they exist. 4. To empower attendees to take control of their career and learn the skill sets necessary for leadership, management, and learning new skills. Attendees will receive a workbook and lunch will be provided. You will not need a laptop but are welcome to bring one.
