JONDO FLAMENCO is proud to present Antonio Rey's only concert in the San Francisco Bay Area!Featured guest artists include Pirouz Ebadypour (Pirouz de Caspio) , Clare Rodriguez, Marlon Aldana, and Jesse Torre. Koko de la Isla will also be joining the troop for fin de fiesta. This is an intimate, seated show - Cabaret Style. Flamenco music has Spanish, Andalusian, Roma and Arabic roots, but its spirit comes alive up close and personal, in a performance setting where you can feel the stomp of heels on the floor, the rhythmic insistence of guitar strings, and the rich vocal style of Cante Jondo.ANTONIO REY NAVAS was born in Madrid in 1981, and began his artistic career at the early age of ten when he accompanied his father Tony Rey in various tablaos in Mexico. A few years later, he was requested by the dancer Yoko Komatsubara to perform what would be his first tour of Japan.At the age of eighteen, he joined the Antonio Canales Company and later composed the music for the show "Gallo de lucha" by the New Spanish Ballet. The Madrid-born guitarist currently continues with this Company founded in 1996 by Ángel Rojas and Carlos Rodríguez, for which he has signed other compositions such as «Romeo y Julieta».His won First Prize in the “Bordón Minero” Guitar Contest at the prestigious Las Mina International Cante Festival, La Unión, in 2003. He also won First Prize awards in the National Contest of Córdoba, 1st Niño Ricardo Award, and Giraldillo Award for Best Concert Artist.In 2004 he collaborated as a guest artist in the group of Paco de Lucia. He was director and composer of the work by Carlos Saura, "Flamenco Hoy" and of different works by the Farruquito Company.He recorded his fourth record, Dos Partes de Mi, in 2017, which contained collaborations with Richard Bona, Diego el Cigala, and Farruquito. His next album, FLAMENCO SIN FRONTERAS, in which Pablo Alborán and El Barrio came together, won the Latin Grammy for best flamenco album in 2020.He was also awarded, at the initiative of Gerardo Nüñez, the Giraldillo award for best guitar concert at the Seville Flamenco Biennial in 2020.
