In the first third of this Vision Quest Class we will use yoga to get in touch with the embodied wisdom of our bodies united with our emotions & our Spirit. 2. In the 2nd third of the class, we will then inquire through journaling, sharing, & giving reflections about our relationship with four archetypes associated with queer men. And we'll explore the story or stories we are playing out in our lives, as well as new stories we may want to try on. Many people have noticed that queer men seem to be over-represented in professions involving four archetypes associated with the care of the community, culture, and the well-being of the earth: Healers, Wizards (people who develop & heal systems), Bards (the storytellers who shape meaning), Jesters (the divine fool who helps the people see & laugh at the truth & how power really operates)Some of us have overplayed one of these archetypes while neglecting or shelving another. In this class we'll journal & share about how we may want to more fully embody or play with one or more of these archetypes society may have insisted we hide. 3. In the last third of the class we'll journal & share about specific ways we want to manifest our ideals in work, love, health, and play, and what our next steps might be, and what support we may want from other group members. We will design specific experiments for embodying archetypes differently and creating new stories with ongoing help from others in the class. Bart Church trained for 10 years under Senior Iyengar Yoga Teachers, focusing on the therapeutic asana sequences of BKS Iyengar used for healing chronic pain & illness. He also led various men's wellness and coaching groups & retreats for nine years in Portland, OR and 8 years in Washington, DC.
