Asian Women Making an Impact Celebrate Women's History Month with us! Hear from an amazing panel of Asian women as they share their career experiences, passion for socially mission-driven work, successes and challenges. Get ready to be inspired! Panelists: Elaine Chow Elaine is the Founder of ChopValue Boston. She has served the Boston community for 20 years in workforce and youth development, and has enjoyed recently shifting her impact focus to sustainability and the circular economy. Elaine is proud to be a working mom, living with her husband and two awesome kids in Dorchester. “Like many parents, I’m doing everything in my power to ensure that the world my kids will inhabit as adults will be the best it can be.” “My vision is for ChopValue Boston to serve as a local catalyst for circular business and inspire others to think bigger and better. Personally, it enables me to merge my passions for business and sustainability in creative and challenging ways.” Elaine earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and BA from Bates College. Lakshmi Balachandra Lakshmi is currently an NSF Fellow. She is also an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at Babson College. Her research examines the impact of trust, gender and other entrepreneurial characteristics in acquiring early-stage funding. She was a co-author of the Diana Report, 2014, the first comprehensive analysis of venture capital investments in women entrepreneurs since 1999. Most recently, she was the lead author on a study with Bank of America exploring the gender bias experienced by successful women entrepreneurs who have achieved over $5 million in revenue. Her research has been published in Harvard Business Review, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice and Negotiation Journal, and her work has received a wide range of press including the AP, USA Today, Businessweek, the Financial Times, The Boston Globe, Entrepreneur Magazine, Inc., and Reuters. Moderator: Shirley Leung Shirley is a columnist and associate editor at the Boston Globe. She has written on everything from the intersection of business and politics to gender and diversity issues in the workplace. She has been a three-time finalist for the Gerald Loeb Award for Commentary. In 2018, Boston Magazine named her to its list of the “100 Most Influential People in Boston.” Shirley is also a contributor to WGBH’s “Boston Public Radio” and “Greater Boston,” as well as a regular guest on New England Cable News. Previously, Shirley served as the Globe's interim editorial page editor. She also has been the Globe’s business editor, where she oversaw its award-winning coverage of the 2008 financial crisis. A graduate of Princeton University, she started her career at her hometown paper, The Baltimore Sun.
