About Case Study Labs Broadway Joe's played a significant role in the emergence of Buffalo's hip-hop scene. It was in this room that Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, and Benny the Butcher, who would later become the core members of Griselda Records, first performed together. The trio formed a group called BSF (Black Soprano Family) and began to gain traction with their gritty, lyrically-driven sound. They often performed at Broadway Joe's, which became a home base for the emerging Buffalo hip-hop scene. Drumwork Music, the label founded by Benny the Butcher, also got its start at the venue, and its early shows there helped to cement its place in the local music scene. Broadway Joe's Bar will always be remembered as a crucial incubator for Buffalo's musical talent, including the hip-hop artists who have gained international recognition in recent years.
