Students will learn a variety of beginning metalsmithing techniques, with a focus on the skills of hand fabrication & soldering. Using raw sterling, copper & brass sheet metal & wire + various metalsmithing tools, we’ll hand form & manipulate the metal into various charms & pendant type elements that can be used in making a variety of jewelry pieces. This class is focused more on developing metalsmithing skills & techniques toward jewelry making, rather than on a specific, finished project. This also allows for individual, creative expression. Students will gain skills in: Sawing & cutting metal Beginning soldering Metal texturing techniques Metal & wire forming Patination + various finishing & polishing techniques Simple stone setting, gemstones may vary And more, as time allowsAll materials will be supplied; along with, a supply list with trusted, purchasing resources. The class will take place over two full-day sessions: Session 1: May 6, 10-5 Session 2: May 7, 10-5 There will be an hour break for lunch, each day. You are welcome to bring your own lunch, to eat in the kitchen, or leave & come back for the second half of the class. This class is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge of jewelry making. What should I wear or bring to the class? Please wear work boots or shoes made from leather or canvas (no nylon, it melts!). Wear natural fiber clothing (cotton is best). Safety glasses are required and will be provided, but if you have a pair you're comfortable in, consider bringing your own. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
