Description
Orgullo Latino Fashion Association in conjunction with La Casa Latina & the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania is proud to announce Exodus & Metamorphosis, the first Latinx-centered fashion show at Penn. This event will close off La Casa’s Carnival programming and start off the Institute of Contemporary Art’s student week with a fashion show highlighting Carnival Festival clothing from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Exodus & Metamorphosis focuses on the motifs of transformation, migration, and adaptation common to Carnival Festivities. Carnival is unique to each region where it is celebrated as it tells the story of the people in that region. With this show, we hope to show that even within such a wide variety, there are similarities within our cultures in which our community at Penn and other institutions find comfort. This event is free for Penn undergraduate students, neighboring universities' undergraduate students, and the public. Although not required, we highly encourage semi-formal attire with vibrant colors. Please contact Brittany Clottey, ICA Public Engagement Project Manager, and Administrative Coordinator, at [email protected] with any questions. About Orgullo Latino Fashion Association (OLFA) is the first Latinx-centered fashion club at the University of Pennsylvania. OLFA was created to provide a space for Latinx students interested in fashion to develop their talents and meet other interested individuals without feeling excluded because of their background. The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania believes in the power of art and artists to inform and inspire. The ICA is free for all to engage and connect with the art of our time. Support This event is made possible thanks to the Institute of Contemporary Art and the ICA Student Board. Thank you to La Casa Latina whose mission is to support Latinx students in their academic and extracurricular endeavors. Programming at ICA is made possible in part by the Emily and Jerry Spiegel Fund to Support Contemporary Culture and Visual Arts and the Lise Spiegel Wilks and Jeffrey Wilks Family Foundation. Public and Student Engagement at ICA is supported by the Bernstein Public Engagement Fund, Suzanne Weiss Doft & Jacob W. Doft, Hilarie L. & Mitchell Morgan, and by Dana McDonald Strong & Mark W. Strong.
