27 April, 2023
Description
On April 27, between 10 am and 3 pm, 75 youth from DC between 14 and 21 will join to learn about careers in the professional building trades and real estate industry.
WHY: Research shows that youth exposed to careers through authentic interaction with those in an industry are likelier to pursue that profession. It is especially relevant when the career professional has attributes similar to the youth.
THE ASK: Companies/volunteers are asked to provide a live demonstration with hands-on materials. For example, an architect may bring blueprints and a compass to show how the tools help them do their job. Additionally, volunteers should be able to discuss their career path (past jobs, certifications, what certifications would be helpful, etc.) and how youth can get involved in the industry. Companies inclusive of staff from an under-represented demographic (gender, race, language, or disability) are strongly encouraged to attend.
