We will meet in the lower parking lot of Fletcher's Cove/Fletcher's Boathouse at 4940 Canal Road NW. Accessible by car or by bike or on foot via the C&O Canal Towpath (mile marker 3.1). Fletcher's Cove is a hidden gem located between the Potomac River and the C&O Canal. Featuring great views of the river and lots of trails through the woods and along the river this is a great place to spot waterfowl as well as forest birds. We're likely to see a variety of sparrows and woodpeckers, ducks such as Wood Ducks and mergansers, raptors including Red-shouldered Hawks, Osprey, and Bald Eagles, as well as possibly some early migrants like Tree and Rough-winged Swallows and early warblers. Be sure to wear boots as the trails are often muddy!
