Please join us at the Calanthean Temple, 1007 Texas Avenue, on April 13th at 6:00 PM as we unveil the artifacts recently discovered by LSUS history students. Witness the beauty inside the Calanthean as we celebrate its 100 year anniversary and unveil artifacts lost during its hay day.
Completed in 1923, the Calanthean Temple served as the center for African American social life and professionals at the turn of the century. The first tenants ranged from doctors, dentists, insurances companies, and more. The rooftop garden was the center of African American entertainment on Texas Avenue, hosting numerous jazz musicians in its prime.
LSUS history students have uncovered over 100 artifacts since the cultural investigation began, you won't want to miss this!
The event is free and open to the public. Parking will be available in the gated parking lot next to the Calanthean Temple.
