Austin Kiln Club is now offering mini workshops so we can get together and play with clay. We will be hosting folks at nearby Figment Creative Labs. These mini workshops are opportunities to try out something new in a casual setting in a quick, easy, and simplified way. Attendees are encouraged to bring snacks and/or drinks to enjoy as we work. 2023 Classes (Winter/Spring):02/13 - Heart-Shaped Boxes02/27 - Vintage PYOP Night03/13 - Self Portraits in Clay03/27 - Newsprint Transfers on Cups04/10 - Fairy Houses04/24 - Vintage PYOP Night05/08 - Silhouette Vases05/22 - Pinch Pots with Slumped Glass06/05 - Clay Cacti06/19 - Vintage PYOP NightFor more info, visit ATXKiln.club 02/13 - Heart-Shaped Boxes We will use a simple slab-building technique to create heart shaped boxes, perfect for holding rings or other trinkets. Boxes can be stamped with messages and colored with underglaze. Boxes will be glazed and fired and ready for pickup in about 2 weeks. 02/27 - Vintage PYOP Night Paint Your Own Pottery, with a vintage twist! Students can pick any pieces they like from Mary Helen’s collection of bisque pieces. Pieces have been hand poured from her collection of vintage molds and include things like treasure trolls, cracker dogs, garden gnomes, and more. 03/13 - Self Portraits in Clay Self portraits are an essential lesson in art-making, but for most, clay will be a new medium for this project. We will use simple sculpting techniques to create our own likenesses on slabs, pinch pots, or lumps of clay. 03/27 - Newsprint Transfers on Cups Students will create simple slab built cups and decorate them using underglaze and newsprint. This east image transfer technique opens the door to many decorative possibilities. Pieces will be clear glazed, fired, and returned in about 2 weeks. 04/10 - Fairy Houses We will use slabs, coils, and pinching to create mini works of artistic architecture! These tiny houses are great for decorating your garden, planters and terrariums. Students can color their works with underglaze and the pieces will be fired and returned in about 2 weeks. 04/24 - Vintage PYOP Night Paint Your Own Pottery, with a vintage twist! Students can pick any pieces they like from Mary Helen’s collection of bisque pieces. Pieces have been hand poured from her collection of vintage molds and include things like treasure trolls, cracker dogs, garden gnomes, and more. 05/08 - Silhouette Vases Leather hard slabs will be cut into fun shapes and assembled into flat faced vases. Students can embellish their vases with texture, color, and/or sculpted details as desired. Pieces will be clear glazed, fired, and returned in about 2 weeks. 05/22 - Pinch Pots with Slumped Glass Students will make their own unique dishes using a simple pinching technique, then embellish the form with sculpted, stamped, or molded elements. Glass will be added to the pots to create a crystalline surface on the bottom. Pieces will be fired and returned in about 2 weeks. 06/05 - Clay Cacti We will make tiny flower pots and fill them with hand sculpted succulents and cacti. Students can color their creations with underglaze after sculpting them. Pieces will be glazed (if desired) and fired, then returned in about 2 weeks. 06/19 - Vintage PYOP Night Paint Your Own Pottery, with a vintage twist! Students can pick any pieces they like from Mary Helen’s collection of bisque pieces.
