Come meet, greet and listen to book readings from four esteemed children's book authors as part of our celebration of Women's History Month.The theme is "Women Shining a Light for our Children through Literature". Highlights of the event will include: Short presentations and book readings by each author Moderated Q&A with the authors and attendeesMeet and Greet with the authors and museum staffOpportunity to purchase children's books and have them signed by the authors! Mini museum tour of the Great Hall. Light fare and beverages availableGeneral Admission tickets are $20 Children ages 6 - 12 are $10. A Little About Our Guest Authors: B. Sharise Moore (Baltimore, MD) is an author, curriculum designer, and the Poetry Editor for the Hugo and World Fantasy Award Winning FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction. In 2022, she edited and designed the curriculum for Conjuring Worlds: An Afrofuturist Textbook for Middle and High School Students. Mrs. Moore's forthcoming books include Fangs, Feathers, and Folklore, a middle-grade field guide of African mythological creatures (2024), and Fatimah’s Fantastic City, a social justice picture book (2025). Dr. Yemonja Smalls (Chicago, IL to Baltimore, MD transplant) is an emerging artist and currently functions as the State Director of Coordination of Community Services in Maryland’s Department of Health. Dr. Smalls received her doctorate from Louisiana State University in clinical psychology. She recently expanded her clinical skills with a master’s degree in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Dr. Smalls' first children's book entitled The Day It Rained, "allows for an intimate peek into the world of Alzheimer’s Disease through the eyes of one little girl whose disappointment is surprisingly dissolved through the unexpected time she shares with her grandmother." Ms. Cheryl Hinton (Baltimore, MD) Mama Cheryl Hinton a.k.a. Love is an Artist, Storyteller, African Dancer, Fabric Sculptress, and Author of a children's book, Kayla's Magic Eyes. She is a member of the National Association of Black Storytellers, Volunteer and Griot with the Sankofa Children’s Museum of African Cultures, Board member and Facilitator for Wombwork Productions, Inc., previous African Dance Instructor and Seamstress for Dance Happens, LLC., and runs her own fabric sculpting and storytelling business called Love’s Pieces. A believer in lifelong learning, she continues to travel to many countries in Africa and throughout the USA capturing stories, and memories, performing, and facilitating workshops. Dr. Margaret Musgrove (Baltimore, MD) is an Emerita Professor from Loyola University with a Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Musgrove is a Fulbright scholar, awarded a Fulbright Research Award to study and teach at the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1997-98. She is the author of Ashanti to Zulu: African Traditions, which won the 1977 Caldecott Award. Her picture book Spider Weaver: A Legend of Kente Cloth was published by Scholastic Blue Sky Press in 2001 and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. Curious about who we are?
