Description

Scott Perry is an award-winning guitarist and composer distinguished through his broad and versatile music repertoire ranging from classical, flamenco, jazz, and pop to world-music and 21st century contemporary styles. He has performed in large and small venues as both a solo artist and in groups playing on a variety of instruments such as the electric guitar, bass, drums, cello, Greek bouzouki, Afghan rubab, Egyptian oud, and Turkish saz. His primary instrument, however, is the solo classical guitar on which Scott explores its highly expressive qualities with rich and complex depth of tone colors. Scott's formal guitar training began with flamenco master Anita Sheer, followed by Dr. Douglas James. He has performed in masterclasses for renowned artists such as Lily Afshar, Michael Chapdelaine, Paul Galbraith, Rovshan Mamedkuliev, Cecilio Perera, and Grammy winning artists David Russell and Jason Vieaux. Composition works by Scott include pieces for orchestra, string quartet, chamber ensembles, choir, film, and theater that have appeared at the Berlin Philharmonic, the San Jose Chamber Orchestra, the de Young Museum, the National Steinbeck Center, the subZERO festival, and many film festivals including the Burbank International Film Festival and the San Jose International Short Film Festival. Scott studied music composition with Dr. Brian Belet, Dr. Pablo Furman, and Dr. Scott Meister. Scott holds a M.A. in Music Composition from San Jose State University in San Jose, California, and a B.A. in Music Performance with concentrations in Music Composition/Theory and Guitar Studies from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
