Presented by: Nicole Harrington, PhD, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Berkshire CBT Services, LLC
Overall Conference Description: CBT for PTSD is too often portrayed as a treatment that is done “to” patients, rather than “with” them, resulting in a perception that treatment is aggressive and needs to be “endured” by the patient in order to see benefit. This image of CBT fails to represent the compassion and empathy that is the cornerstone of effective CBT treatment. This presentation will focus not only on the mechanisms of change involved in evidence-based treatment for PTSD, but will also use case material to highlight patients’ experiences of treatment, as well as the relationship dynamics that lead to posttraumatic growth and change.
Participants will be able to: Describe the core components and mechanisms of change involved in evidence-based treatment for PTSD. Identify barriers to the use of evidence-based CBT in the treatment of PTSD. Use case material to challenge perceived barriers to the use of evidence-based treatment for PTSD.Wednesday April 26, 2023
