Aviation Photography With Moose Peterson It’s a foggy morning as it always seemed to be at Spanhoe Field as the crews were driven to their aircraft. The men of the 315th had done this before but it never seemed routine. As the crews warmed up their Dakotas, the reality of the days mission pressed on them just as the tires left earth. It’s 1944 England and if you worked your magic and skill with your camera, that story you tell in your photograph in 2023 grabs the viewer! Who doesn’t look up when they hear the sound of a plane? There is something about flight that grabs our imagination. Aviation photography is the most adrenaline rich, action packed thrill ride to ever expose a pixel! That’s why it the fastest growing genre of photography. The speed, sounds, and smells are intoxicating and when combined with that image in your camera, you are hooked! And here starts the challenge of sharing this experience in your photographs with others. Begin your experience with a lecture given by Moose at our store in The Woodlands on Saturday, April 15. Continue with Moose at sunrise on Sunday the 16th at the West Houston Airport, where, with Moose's guidance, you'll make amazing photographs of some incredible flying machines. The organization believes that is best accomplished by maintaining the airplanes in flying condition; taking the airplanes to the people allowing them to experience the sight and sound of the aircraft in flight. As a unit of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF), we are dedicated to preserving and honoring our military history with the rallying cry to “Keep ‘Em Flying!” The Houston Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is an organization that Educates, Iresnspires, and Honors our Veterans through the use of our vintage aircraft and our collection of artifacts to tell the story of the brave men and women that have served their country in times of war. About the Instructor Moose’s lifelong passion is photographing the life history of our endangered wildlife and wild places. Since 1981, he and his wife, Sharon, have dedicated their lives to this pursuit. Educating the public about our wild heritage is their hallmark. Moose added to this in 2008 aviation photography with the same goal of preserving our aviation heritage and the freedoms they protect — pictorial and oral — for future generations. Along the way, Moose has been honored for his photographic passion: a Nikon Ambassador, recipient of the John Muir Conservation Award, Research Associate with the Endangered Species Recovery Program, just to name a few. He was part of Epson’s Finish Strong ad campaign. Moose was the creative producer/photographer of his acclaimed film Warbirds and The Men Who Flew Them. He shares his knowledge through his writing and has been published in over 143 magazines worldwide and authored 29 books including his latest, Takeoff and best seller Captured. He lectures across the country to thousands upon thousands of photographers every year. One of the original Nikon shooters to receive the D1 in 1999, Moose embraced this new technology becoming the only wildlife photographer in the world to shoot strictly digital in the early years. While a beta site for all the major hardware and software manufacturers, Moose continues being a creative innovator of new techniques both behind the camera and the computer, which is the driving force behind his photography and goals.
