Description

Funke + Qemist BE PREPARED for a night of serious Black Dance Music. Michael "Qemist" Ivy is a multi-faceted electronic artist from Memphis, TN with a wide range of production and music creation techniques. Being classically trained on the piano at age 11 and growing up listening to house, techno, footwork, and club music, Qemist has found a soundscape in which he has been able to blend deep, lush melodies with crisp, forward electronic production. Having toured and performed at festivals like Deep Tropics and SXSW, Qemist has been met with outstanding review for his heady club mixes and melodic, refreshingly lounge style productions. A sonic vessel for music, Qemist continues to expand on his soundscape and break molds on how electronic music is perceived. Memphis native and New Orleans based, Fùnké (pronounced foon-KAY) lends more to her birth name meaning ‘victory of the people’ when it comes to being behind the decks. Funke considers herself a servant to the people by being an open vessel through the power of DJing. Conjuring from the watery crossroads of the Mississippi and Wolf River, Funke blends a hypnotic brew of Ancestral, Deep, Mzansi, Kuduro, Soulful, Minimal House, Ballroom House and Broken Beat. Funke sees the dance floor as a sacred container that holds everything from our joys to our woes and uses the healing power of music as a vehicle to move out of our minds and in our spirits. Funke has made waves alongside Ezel, Bradford James, Salah Ananse, Rahaan, Marcus Vogel, Recloose, Carlos Mena, Bassnectar, Applejac, DJ Minx, Nina Sol, Kai Alce, Osunlade, Ladymonix, Mr. White, SHYBOI, Sabine, Grupo Fantasma, Sierra Leone Refugee Allstars, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 and more.
