"Verna Mize was a pioneer for Lake Superior in the environmental movement back in 1967. The standard at the time was to dump the shavings of iron ore pellets into the lake with the proposal being, "the solution to pollution is dilution." She refused this reply and convinced the Federal Government and the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota to bring a lawsuit against the company. The law suit was settled in favor of the people and the companies are now dumping on land effectively saving Lake Superior from certain destruction." Credit to Charles Eshbach for the details.
