Description

Mushrooms are truly a great connector on our plant, the mycelium network is running underneath our feet, communicating with trees and plants and offering supports to all the ecosystems that they touch. Mushrooms have so many benefits, not just for our physical and mental health but for the soil as well. Even though not all mushrooms are edible, in this Growing Mushrooms 101 class you will be introduced a strain that is quite happy to grow in your garden and equally delicious and safe to prepare in your kitchen, the King Strafarian or lovingly known in the mushroom community as the Garden Giant. You will learn about the science behind growing these delicious fungi, some of their benefits and will walk through the process of inoculating a garden bed and pathways in the Patwin Community Garden. You will take spores from the King Strafarian Mushroom to inoculate your own garden beds to reap the benefits of this garden ally. Our teacher, Farmer Mac is a cultivator of gourmet mushrooms at Forevermore Fungi and is studying to be a Mycologist. He will share his story from Military to Mushrooms and how these fungi allies can aide in wellness and recovery from traumatic situations as well as boost our cellular health. We will also share a few favorite recipes that you can try at home, and if you have one you'd like to share, email us and we'll add it to the mix.
