Description

EVENT LOCATION: Barbara Goodman Theater (Blackbox) This event is open to the public. CCSJ will celebrate Women’s History Month on Monday, March 27th.  This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Women Who Tell Our Stories.”  We recognize those women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling.  This timely theme honors women in every community who have devoted their lives and talents to producing art and news, pursuing truth and reflecting society decade after decade. We believe storytelling is one example of building bridges.  Through these stories we learn that, underneath it all, we are all very similar with many of the same joys and challenges.  Stories also give us the opportunity to build empathy for the many different circumstances others may have and to build a bridge of care and hope.  Dr. Amy McCormack will host a panel of three women to discuss how their art of storytelling can build bridges between countries, communities, families and individuals.  Panelists will be Eve Gomez, Gayle Kosalko, and Jacinda Ross.  Gomez is a business woman, radio personality, podcaster, an advocate for the Latino community, author and life coach. She has received a number of awards for her service and dedication to her community including the Trailblazer Award from the National Hook-Up of Black Women in 2018 for her dedication to improving the lives of women and their families through her community service.    Kosalko is the creative mind behind a number of recognizable staples of the Whiting-Robertsdale (WR) community:  the Pennsylvania Avenue Players Musical Children’s Theatre; the local newspaper, The Write Stuff; and the Pierogi Fest icon, Mr. Pierogi, to name a few.  She is a Fellow of the Society of Innovators of NW Indiana and is a playwright, editor, writer. Gayle now serves as the curator of the WR Historical Museum and is also a CCSJ alumna.  Ross is the founder of the Sacred Care Foundation which helped hundreds of orphans within her local and church communities. She then founded Healing Through Giving Ministries and hosts a television show on TLN which enabled her to partner with various entities and organizations to make a global impact.  She is also realtor and started her own company, Ross Realtors.  Jacinda is also a CCSJ alumna.   Hosted by Dr. Amy McCormack.
