On Saturday, March 25 at 2pm, join photographer Robert Lundberg for an Artist Talk discussing his current work in display at the Howland Cultural Center, Uncontaminated Sound: Reflections.
From the Artist:
In August 2017, I found myself backstage at Le Poisson Rouge, NYC on my first photographic assignment for Paste Magazine. After some time adjusting to the action, I found myself alone in the dressing room with the artist, positioned behind him, I snapped away as he glanced at himself in the mirror trying to figure out who he wanted to be. This was precisely the moment I fell in love with attempting to capture those little moments that occur when we think no one’s around. It is this aspect “the humanity” of the artist that has propelled my visual investigations, and the creation of my ongoing series Uncontaminated Sound.
Now it’s 2023, the world is a different place since the pandemic took hold. Shows are not guaranteed, cancellations are the new norm, venues I once called home now closed, and the fire of creation once strong, now dimmed to a low glow. However, no matter the external factors I believe it’s even more important to continue the rich tradition of performance, creation, and expression in a world in which seems to be fighting against such innate human need.
Thus, in Uncontaminated Sound: Reflections I’ve pulled about 70 images from my archive that reflect this special period in my life. A period in which the road was home, venues my office, and the excitement and energy ran through my veins into the lens. What I present here is a collection of images that make up my personal narrative; the little moments, memories, and interactions that have captivated me for the last half decade, now transferred to print so as to express themselves to you.
